Please excuse my frustration, but having done some developement on Crystal 8.5, it was rather easy to adjust (or create for scratch) my SQL statement in "Show SQL Query". Now, of course, Crystal has to come up with a new version 9 to make things even more difficult to do the simple things.

Is there some 'magical' way now to actually view and EDIT my SQL statement in version 9 - because I can't find it. I don't want to do work arounds, stored procedures or that mess of a language Crystal uses for a SQL Expression - I just want to use pure SQL to perform my job, along with subqueries I might want to add later.

Version 8.5 gave me this flexability, but Version 9 seems to have taken this away.

Please advise.

In version 9, depending on connectivity method, you can "add command" which essentially opens a window for you to type your SQL command. You can use parameters etc, although I haven't figured out how to pass a parameter array and it doesn't work in my native Sybase driver (and ODBC considers the separate databases on the same server to be unique datasources).

Thanks for your response Lisa.

Could you direct me on how to access the "Add Command" window - I've looked in the help portion of Crystal 9 for this and there is no reference to it.

When you go to the database expert, the first thing under your datasource (before the table list) should be "add command". It is connection type dependant (it isn't available for some native connections and non standard crystal connections). You didn't mention your database and connection type so I can't say whether you have it or not. If you don't, your just out of luck, I have already argued that line with crystal support.. its pretty much too bad.

Thank Lisa. I've tried it out and I think I can live with it. Again, thanks for your help.
