I have a folder which contains word, excel, and notepad files. Many of these files have long names (ie, 30-40 characters). I would like to see the whole name of each file. Any suggestions?

Right click in the folder and click VIEW
Then click on "List" OR "Details"

See the whole file name now ?

Yeah, I already had it in list view, and I was already showing the details.

However, while I was tinkering I recognized the real problem. Even in list view, the "name" column is rather narrow. If I simply broaden the name column, then it fixes my problem. And even if I close the folder, when I open it Windows remembers that the name column should be wider than normal.

Wow, after fixing that I should be ready to tackle the Unified Field Theory.

You fooled me, as I thought the issue was in a File Open or other dialogue box.

Yes you can stretch or shrink the columns to fit. You can also determine what columns of information will be displayed. Right click on the column header and see the numerous choices available to show or not show.
