Excel newbie, please forgive me if this is obvious.

I'm calculating a variance column as (A2-A1). Negative numbers display fine, but i'd like to display positive numbers with + in front of them, in other words like +4.02%.

Select the cells, then Format | Cells - find the "Custom" - at the left of the "Type" field, before any number of formatting symbol, type +.

It is not obvious at all.

Select the cells/columns/range that you want to display this way.

Go to Format > Cells, on the Numbers tab, choose Custom from the list on the left. In the box at the top right, type in
[COLOR=blue white]+0;[red]-0[/red];[green]0[/green][/color]

Then click OK.

FYI:
[blue]How positive values display[/blue]
[red]How negative values display[/red]
[green]How zero displays[/green]

[tt]_____
[blue]-John[/blue][/tt]
[tab][red]The plural of anecdote is not data[/red]
