I use a cisco 1720 as my frame-realy host. We did install a new frame relay link to one of our remote sites.

When I do a "sho frame-relay PVC"on both routers, the remote shows that the PVC status is inactive whereas the host shows that the PVC status is Static.

What could be the problem. I did rang up my telecom carrie and they said that its OK.

Need help

The new pvc on the host can and will show up to the frame relay cloud if it see's the frame relay sync, however unless the remote site is setup correctly it will be down. There are a few things to try here. First see if you can loop up ANS ( Advance Network Services ) you can have your provider do this are you should be able to get the
number from your provider. 2nd make sure that your router is correct ( DLCI, Bandwidth etc ). Oh and make sure that ANS does not have this span in a test mode. Tell them to normal it up. For the loop test it will be in a test mode. J.Fisher CCNA

Jeter,

Thanks for the tips. I did have a look at my configuration and found out that my host (1720) doesnt have this line on the serial interface " frame-relay lmi-type ansi". My 1720 is running on IOS version 12.1. This line is enable on my remote router which is a 1601. I did try and put in this line and it looks like it accepts it. But when I check out the config (Sho conf) I didnt see it.

Is this may be the cause that the PVC on the host side Status is Static ?

Meanwhile our carrier are trying to do another test. My suspicion is that when they first do the test ( before our installation) they forgot to remove the loop as y did said on your firt post.

Anyway, I will keep you posted on the progress

If they forgot to remove the loop, it would show up by saying LOOPED. I have seen way too many telco's say "we didnt do a thing" and yet the line healed itself ;-)

Now.. they *could* have looped the NIU and then you would be down but they would think the line is up.. if you know where the NIU is at, you can look at the pretty lights and see if they are all green. Sometimes a prompt about a red light or missing light on the NIU gets more of a response from them.. I told them once to get the *@#( tech out or *I* was going to repunch the T1 lines myself and prove they were wrong. That got a reaction to put it mildly ;)hehehe.. yah do what yah gotta do...

Jeter,

Frame relay encapsulation IETF was enabled on both interfaces.

wybnormal,

Thanks for the advice. What I will try and do is a back to back to test whether my configuration is right or wrong. Our Telco carrier says that our configuration might be wrong.

regards

send a copy of sh frame-relay pvc and a copy of the interface. If you can a copy of the config with what the DLCI's should be with your CIR and LMI type Jeter@LasVegas.com
