Hi all! I just purchased a new (*cough* *cough*) 2514 router (I was told it was new but it is VERY used - so much for E-bay). Anyway, I am having trouble getting it to boot properly. It appears to be attempting to load various config files and they are of course timing out. Although it will get so far as to prompt to go through the initial configuration, but I am getting some weird messages that I haven't seen before. When I did a Show Flash, this was the result:

system flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 5334792 c2500-d-l.112-9 [invalid checksum]
[5334856 bytes used, 11442360 available, 16777216 total]
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)

What's with the invalid checksum? Do I have a corrupted file or is this router hosed?! Please offer your feedback as I am beginning to feel like I have been screwed. Thanks!!

I would recommend loading a new IOS file. Of course, if you don't have a CCO login (and probably a SmartNet account), that may be easier said than done. Good news: it is more than likely the IOS as opposed to the router.

As for the broadcasts, on older IOS (such as 11.x) I think 'service config' was enabled by default. This is just your router looking for a server that might have a good config file. It will not be enabled by default on newer IOS.

Shwew! Thanks - I hope you're right......of course now I just have to get a new copy of IOS *gulp*!!!
