Show Earliest Date

I Have the following

Group (blah)
blah blah jan 14, 2001
blah blah feb 12, 2001

I would like only to see the earliest date in my details

Sort your report so that the earliest date is on top. Hide the details section and place the database fields you want to see in the group header. This will give you the first record.

If you can't use Don's method, then the earliest date is
Minimum({table.datefield},{table.groupfield})

The you can use a group selection formula of
{table.datefield} =
Minimum({table.datefield},{table.groupfield})
