Windows 10 mail is divided into Focused and Other. Some of the messages appear in Focused, the others in Other.

1) How does the mail decide whether it is Focused or Other?
2) Other than installing another mail client, is there a way of displaying all the messages instead of having to look in both Focused or Other?

It's really easy to fix. use the following google search string "outlook remove focused" and your solution will be on the results page.

Bill that is the solution for Outlook - not W10 mail. It is not the same thing. W10 mail does not have tabs or ribbons.

Anyway the solution is as follows

1) Click on the cog wheel on the bottom left
2) Settings panel appears - select Focused Inbox
3) Switch it off

This is for windows 10 mail

If you'd like to turn Focused Inbox off, or change whether your badge count is synced to Focused Inbox, go to "Settings" and scroll down. To change your notifications settings, go to "Settings" and tap on "Notifications". To turn off Focused Inbox, go to "Settings" and switch the Focused Inbox toggle off.
