Hey guys,

This is confusing me....Can you check out my website Search Google for "ristmo" if you want, and you'll see that their cached version of my homepage is the same as the current version, so that's not the problem. My keywords are:

web design rockwall
web design plano
web design garland
web design mesquite

I don't see why I'm not ranking on the front page for at least the Rockwall search -- since I'm the only design company in the city, and the results are all directories. Is it possible that although the changes to my site (to include the keywords for rockwall and the other cities) have been noticed, I haven't been ranked for them yet? I'm on the 4th or 5th page for web design rockwall. I just don't see why....am I doing something wrong? It seems like this should be one of the least competitive searches to rank for...and I'm being outranked by directories?? :S

Thanks,
Rick

your on page focus is too weak for those phrases.

the main phrase on the home page would actually be "web design dallas" (3,000,000 results) the rest of the words in the title are just diluting that phrase.

Yes, web design Dallas is my main keyword that I'd eventually like to rank for. But with 3,000,000 results and the vast majority of them being from very well known web design companies with hundreds or thousands of back-links, it'll be quite a while before I can outrank them. What I'd like to do is start out with the smaller neighboring cities (that I listed), rank top for those searches to generate some business, then eventually try to compete for Dallas. Maybe I should just completely get rid of references to Dallas for now? What would you suggest?

Thanks,
Rick

I'd leave the home page focussed on that if it's your eventual target and add some more pages to focus on the surrounding areas.
your own backlinks should be enough for the less competitive terms and a bit of creative copywriting should get you around the mid first page for most of those terms.
