I have searched the Corel Website for some good reason to put my users through an upgrade to Paradox 10 to no avail. Its just a bunch of marketing hype.

I have 30 users of 5 complex network based applications I have developed and maintained for 10 years. Upgrading is not a trivial process!

Some of the users are on 2000/XP clients and some are still at Windows 98.

Has anyone found a really good reason to upgrade from Paradox 9 to Paradox 10?

I apprecieate your insight.

Jennyjsh,

There've been a few threads one this topic over the past few months and I'd suggest scrolling through some of them to get a sense of some of the previous comments.

However, the basic question you need to ask when upgrading anything is "Are you happy with what you've already got?"

If so, then there's really no reason to upgrade.

If not, then there may be a reason--depending on the details of your unhappiness.

There aren't that many so-called "checklist" features that were added to version 10. The most significant one, from a cost viewpoint, is the inclusion of Runtime with WPO 2002/Pro. That can save a lot of money, depending on the development team and how they currently distribute Paradox applications.

There were a few other features, such as stringlists and so one, but most of the changes were internal. I know a lot of effort went into improving the performance and stability of reports. (This is something that Corel's been working on since they acquired Paradox from Borland.)

Personally, I still use Paradox v9 more than version 10, though I have been slowly reworking my "toolkit" code to support stringlists.

There are rumors that WPO 2003 is close to being released. Perhaps that will contain more obvious reasons to upgrade. Given the restructuring Corel went through at the tail end of last year, I'm not expecting anything major, though. (It's hard to add lots of spiffy new features when you're reducing the resources that actual do the work of adding them.)

Hope this helps...
