I am about to build a new server and install 10g2, and wish to use ASM.

Normally, I would use 3 physical HDD's configured as a RAID 5 array, to provide redundant storage. However, I want to use ASM, as it will make life easier if we subsequently move to an RAC configuration.

Should I specify each of the three physical disks and let ASM do the redundancy, of configure the 3 disks as RAID 5 and then specify EXTERNAL REDUNDANCY in ASM?

How long is this particular piece of string?
