I have several ongoing issues that Avaya have acknoledged as software bugs. I have been playing the caputre dubug and send it off for about a month now, and they keep telling me they will send me the intermin release any day now.

I was just wondering if I should just upgrade to 4.0, or will that just make the issues worse.

I am looking for users who have made the upgrade for similar reasons, and I want to know if it helped.

I have an IPO 406V2 with an ATM16 in one location, and a SOE in a remote location, with SCN wirking very well between these sites.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Start by making sure your 406 is a PCS 08 or later, otherwise you'll have to start with requesting a replacement unit for 4.0.

Otherwise it depends on how bad the problems are, I wouldn't upgrade to 4.0 until the maint release now scheduled to 15th june unless I had to.

And if you just want bugfixes it's probably safer to go with the 3.2 maint coming the same time.

Does Avaya publish a schedule of when these maintenence releases are going to be made available?

Afraid not.

As has happened with version 4 release dates can slip due to issues etc.

If a schedule was published it would mean when that timeline was not hit then people would start creating.

Its easier to just give an approx date plus advice that this may slip.

3.2 is on its third or 4th release if memory serves me. I As a rule say skip the GA(original) release of any new major release as they are the least stable releases. That tells me you should stick with the 3.2 release if you are looking for dealing with bugs, it will have the least.

With 4.0 I would revise my rule to consider the first maint release as the GA(original) release, and skip it as well, never even considering the actual GA(original) 4.0 release even as an option. I may however revise my opinion of the maint release once I see it, and get some feedback on it from the field.

In essence, I do not see 4.0 as a viable option until July at the earliest for my customers, unless a 4.0 feature is mission critical, and cannot wait.
