This Acer 1610A 16x10x40 cdrw is usable in XP, but I can't seem to get it to work with Roxio EZCD v4.02 in Win2K. The device that is currently working is an LG8120B which works in everything but is too slow.

More specifically: the Win2K machine sees and identifies the device as an ATAPI 16x10 cd-r/rw, so the machine knows it's there, but I can't get Roxio software to recognize it as a cdrw. EZCD Creator sees only a CD-R, and I have tried updating from their worthless website.

The Acer documentation is completely focused on W98 and NT4, no mention of 2K. Their download site doesn't indicate anything about a firmware upgrade for 2K (only a general upgrade is offered), and in fact warns that if the device is functioning don't upgrade. It functions in XP, but not 2K, so I am hesitant to bollix up the whole deal for the sake of getting it into my 2K box.

Anybody have any experience with Acer firmware issues? Help! Email me! denodave@yahoo.com

The EZCD 4.02 is old. Try version 5 and updates. The new version should recognize the device...

Thanks tyrantssv, but no thank you. I won't touch version five. All updates are installed for this version. v5 is too buggy and expensive. I have been told Nero is just as good and can be had for much less money.

I tried the dos driver set that Acer "provides", but it did no good at all.

It has been suggested that I check my ASPI layering...do you know how to do that? Email me! denodave@yahoo.com

You may visit to adaptec website and download the ASPI driver:
ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v471.exe
Run this program when donwloaded and installation pack will be unpacked. Run aspichk.exe to check your ASPI status. This program shows to you the name of your OS, the name, size and version of ASPI driver if installed.
To install ASPI layer run the aspiinst.exe program.

Hey, TyrantSSV.....

That ftp site is not accesible anonymously! Do you have a user-id and password? If you do, would you email it to me, my email is listed publicly in this forum.

OR can you email me or post the file here? Email me! denodave@yahoo.com
