I use my computer for running programming applications and other things. But I am also a hard core gamer. I have ordered Windows 2000 Professional for the purpose of running my applications more stable. Now there are resourses out there for Win 2000 user gamers like the Win2K Launcher, which allows you to make your games a higher priority. My question is, should I just work with Win 2000 to get games to work, or should I just load Win 98 SE as a second OS and load it when I want to play my games?

Thanks for any ideas and suggestions in advance.

I have found that most of my games run better on Win2000. I have also found some of them wont. I used to dual boot at home between W2K and W98SE. Now I just run W2K. Are some of your games older or DOS based? If not just run W2K.

It depends on your games, if most of those games are '99/'00 , then they should run fine on Windows2000, most of the latest games I have bought (Alice, Sims, Giants, Sacrifce, Catylsm, etc) have run just fine on Win2k, even the good popular ones like half-Life, Quake3, Unreal Tournament, also run just great, one of the things to keep in mind is the have the latest patches, drives, etc.

it should run just great, the only game I have really run into with problems was "Theif" because it detected Win2k as an NT system, and said "due to DirectX limitations in NT systems, Theif cannot be installed on this machine" but thats about the only thing I've ran into, also if you take a quick course on Win2k Administration, you should be able to learn how to remove unneeded services and to tweak it for better performance.

Also keep in mind, if you have 128 Megs of rams or less, naturally your games will run slower on win2k, I recomend getting more than 128, so that the first set can be for the system, while you still have extras for your applications and such. Karl
