One of the many reasons I really like IP Office is the shortcuts available to a programmer during the configuration process.
But, I have yet to find a shortcut for adding H323 Extensions.
I thought I would check with the highly skilled and knowledgeable members of this forum to see if any of you have any tricks.
Do you know any shortcuts or tricks to ease the configuration of a large number of H323 or SIP telephones?

Do you have a favorite shortcut when configuring a system?

You do know that by default, auto create extension is on, and when you register a sip or h323 device, the system will automatically put in an extension, yeah?

@AACon ...
Thanks for the response!
Yes, I am aware of the feature.
I'm talking about configuring prior to actually installing the sets. Like doing an offline config.

I have yet to find any tangible value in using auto create since you have to wait for every set to be connected, updated, and registered before using the utility to renumber all the extensions to the range the customer wants to use,(unless you want to renumber a few at a time) and then there's the hassle of getting the right extension at the right desk.
I suppose it's better than manually building them, but I was hoping maybe somebody had a better alternative.

Cheers!

Just build the users! When you plug in the phone, it auto creates the extension. It's not really hard. The system does not *NEED* the extensions of "virtual" sets until they register. They will get the extension that you plug into the phone. Also, when you create users, it'll *ask* you if you want to create a sip/h323 extension. Just hit yes when you make them.
You can import a whole list of users using csv files.

It's laid out like this,

Name,Extension,UserRight,EmailAddress,FullName

Ahhhhhh ... I see the light!!!
I've always built the extension, then the user. What a bonehead I've been. I use phantom extensions for various call flows all the time and I've seen the prompt to create an associated extension hundreds of times, but I never thought of using it to my advantage when we're actually installing H323 phones. Geez do I feel like an idiot! [sad]

I already use the export/import on the users all the time (one of my favorite short cuts).
So, if I import 50 users with extension that don't exist, will the system prompt me one time to create the extensions or 50 times?

No, it won't prompt you. No extensions will be created, which really doesn't matter, because again, they will auto generate when the phone registers to the system.
