Im running CS on a PC.

Can't seem to get any shortcuts affiliated with the character/paragraph styles.

The Shortcut field remains blank no matter what I try to type in it.

Any takers?

The shortcuts affiliated with the character/paragraph styles are the worst feature of this program.

You have to have a two key combo like Command+1 (1 on the number keypad not the 1 on the keyboard side) any other key won't work.

It's a two handed operation (unless you work at the carnivals - Big hands...).
You have to take you hand off the mouse to hit the key combo instead of simply hitting eg. F1.

It's a waste of time, it doesn't speed anything up...

Thanks MS.

Appreciate the helping hand. You couldn't direct me to a plugin or something that gets around this ridiculous inability of InD, could you? A 'one key shortcut' mod, maybe?..

Odd, really.

Why would someone go to all the trouble of creating an 'app killer' and overlook something as twatty as short shortcuts?

No offence Robin,
I find my left hand hovers over the left part of the keyboard just on top of the control, option, command and shift keys. My right hand is on the mouse.

That way I can do the shortcuts like command+s and undo, and space bar or option+mouse to move the page around, those sorts of things and when I want to apply a style I have to reach over with my left hand to hit the two key combo on the other side of the keyboard or take my right hand off the mouse.
Either way it slows me down compared to a one button shortcut like "F1"

Hear hear.

It seems a little bold of Adobe to try and instill a new protocol for these matters. I've been sat in front of page layout for far too long to learn new, illogical stuff like these long ass shortcuts.

However, it works perfectly for me, since I used the very same shortcuts in Quark. I move through text with Control-DownArrow (Control key left hand, downarrow right), and continuing to keep my hand on the Control key, hit the numeric shortcut I want. I use Shift or Alt with my left hand, too, as needed.

Very, very fast way to whip through text applying styles.

Yeah...but...if in the past you assigned the styles to say (like in Quark F1, F2 etc)
You would have noticed that you would be using your left hand to apply them in one easy movement while still keeping the right hand on the mouse to navigate. I'm a very lazy person so if I have to take my right hand off the mouse, it upsets me.
I think, a far quicker way. ;-)
