Many preferences are now in the Windows registry. To reset your Photoshop preferences you can hit Shift-Ctrl-Alt upon startup.

except photoshop's. :)

>To reset your Photoshop preferences you can hit Shift-Ctrl-Alt upon startup.

that deletes the file :

"Adobe Photoshop x Prefs.psp"

from:

C:\WINNT\Profiles\USER\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\x.0\Adobe Photoshop X Settings

or

C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\x.0\Adobe Photoshop X Settings

the only thing stored in the registry are hooks to file types or image handlers (shellex stuff with psicon.dll) and personalization info like serial # hash and stuff.

Thx for the correction Aikodude . I'll recheck the source and many apologies to all!

The "Note:" at the end of this readme file from adobe could have been made a little clearer!

"Initialization and Preferences Files"

"You can find the Photoshop 6.0.1 preference files in the following locations:

Windows 98:
Windows\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\6.0\Adobe Photoshop 6 Settings

Windows NT:
WinNT\profiles\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\6.0\Adobe Photoshop 6 Settings

Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\AdobePhotoshop\6.0\Adobe Photoshop 6 Settings.

Note: Many preferences are now in the Windows registry. To reset your Photoshop preferences you can hit Shift-Ctrl-Alt upon startup."

This explanation from the adobe Adobe website is less confusing!

Each version of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe ImageReady has different filenames for its preferences files, so if you have multiple versions of Photoshop and ImageReady installed, each stores its own preferences settings in a different set of files.

To delete and re-create the preferences files, start Photoshop or ImageReady and, as it starts, hold down Control+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS), and then click Yes to the prompt "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?" or "Delete the Adobe ImageReady Settings file?"
