On a few computers this one is running XP Pro I have variuos shortcuts to the differnt databases users need to open. I am setting up a new user on a laptop and one of the shortcuts will not do anything. If I double click it it shows the hourglass for a bnit then nothing. I have another database in the same folder and it works just fine.

If you look in the properties of the shortcut, does the Target point to the correct file?

Can you open the file by first starting Access, and then opening with File -> Open?

I usually create my shortcuts with a path to the Office files also... this also helps with using multiple versions of Access.

Target would be something like this: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSAccess.exe" "C:\Data\MyDatabase.mdb"

And Start In would be: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office (no quotes)

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
John

We are experiencing this very same phenom and yes this does enable the shortcut to open the database. But I guess the issue is why doesn't the target only open it and what changed...because on most other workstations the 'target' short cut works fine.
