Shortcut Keys

A link can have a shortcut key associated with it.
Where are they stored ?

As far I know the following :
It's not in the link file itself.
I've deleted one and recreated it without giving any shortcut. It still works, but then it's impossible to delete the previous shortcut assignment.

The link file must keep it's name.
The link file must remain at the same place.

But the content can change, i.e., can point to another apps.
