I am once again thinking about setting up a RAID 0 configuration for my main system at home, since I'm sometimes seeing slow-downs and jitters when editing large audio files. But I thought I'd do some research before actually doing anything myself. So I searched around, and found a few references to something called short stroking a hard drive - basically it's just limiting the partition size to something smaller than the full capacity.
Here's one article on it:
So my question is this: is short stroking the same as using custom partition sizes? For isntance, if the drive is large enough, I usually put the system in a small portion - say no more than 80 to 100GB of a large drive, if I think I'll install a lot of large programs, or smaller if smaller programs. So if I were to create a RAID array, then create my normal custom partitions, will that be the same as just flat not using the partitions other than the one for the system?
