Short-haul modems for Meridan Access??

I'm trying to get Meridan Access enabled on our Symposium, but since the voice mail and the Symposium server are located in separate rooms, I need to use short-haul modems (or line drivers) to connect the two. My vendor recommended using the Black Box modem ME800A. However, when using those, they end up knocking voice mail offline. The only way to get it back up is to reboot it.

Is anyone using line drives for Meridian Access with success? Or can I get away without using any at all, even though the distance between the systems is greater than the 50ft limitation?

How much greater is the distance? In my experience, you will have intermittent failures even if it appears to work at first. In one example, 73 feet caused ACCESS to be down more than it was up.

It's 240 ft.

Did just get off the phone w/ the tech working with me. The terminal is connected to the MMP40, and that's what is getting knocked down. The Access link will be connected to the utility card, so it might not be an issue. However, I'd like to be able to test it. If I connect a terminal to the Access link, will I see anything?

You definitely need short haul modems in your case.

You could connect your laptop to the ACCESS link and use hyperterm to test. You can also see activity on the ACCESS link in the MerMail Tools menu.

OK - I've configured a dedicated port for Access and have created an entry in the VSDN table. I've also hooked up my notebook to the ACCESS link (with a null modem adapter) and don't seem to have any activity at all.

When I go to the Tools menu it has the following for the link:

Tkmstat - Running
TCStat - Down
Link Status - Not Working

When I press F3 for OM Info, I get a whole page of text with the following info (I'm paraphrasing here since it had a lot of info):

TC last started **/**/** **:**:**
Active sessions = 0
AOIC Running = 0

"TC Task not running, task died or not in STARTLIST..."

"Links must be properly connected... If possible run ACCDIAG on the Unix processor... Etc..."

So I understand that mail is not seeing anything connected to my Access link, but why? Is there something on Mail that needs to be started up??

Any insight is appreciated.
