short cut keys not working

Hi all:

Does anybody there know how to make shortcut keys work in Flash MX?

No basic shortcut key will work.
EG, cntrl s, f5, etc.
It's really strange, since this has worked before.
And with other graphic apps, they work fine - except in Flash.

I went into edit, keyboard shortcuts, but no help there.

they can be made to work but you have to define them yourself as key listeners
