I'm not well versed in Avaya and I've kinda been thrown into this with a "just figure it out" directive. Using IP Office Manager 11.0.4.5.0
Recently ported some POTS into our Comcast PRI. These analog lines are used for faxes and are tied into a fire alarm system.
The lines come out of an analog expansion module from the Avaya box, and are currently working. Extensions are set, matched to the corresponding extensions created in the 'User' area, with incoming call routes for the ported numbers. Incoming calls to these numbers are working as intended.
ARS were created for the outbound dialing to send the actual number out on the caller ID as well as to avoid the need to press 7 for outbound dialing.
However, I'm having trouble linking the extensions in User to the ARS with the created short codes. I'll try to explain this stuff as best as I can with my limited understanding of how it all works.
On one of the brands of fax machines, we're using a prefix that is the created short code which hits the intended ARS and is sending the outbound faxes/calls with the desired caller ID as well as avoiding the need for staff to enter 7 for dialing. But, the other brand of fax machine does not have the prefix option. Also, the two lines for the fire alarm system don't have this ability either. This means currently that outbound dials require 7 (ultimately not a big deal for the fax, but potentially a big deal with the fire alarm system) and the outbound caller ID shows our main phone number, because I'm assuming it's defaulting to the 'main' ARS.
So from what I've gathered, the solution needs to be setting a short code within the User options of the extensions and have it work when the line goes off-hook. Like a short code within 'User' that engages the short code in the 'Short Code' which then hits the ARS and just sends the number out while also avoiding the need to enter 7 for outbound dialing.
If this is correct so far, this is where I'm stuck. I've tried a few combinations with ?D using Dial or Dial 3K1 to try to enable these lines to dial the created shortcode when going off-hook, with the desired end result of sending the ported number out as the outbound caller ID and avoiding the need to hit 7. But, well, what I've tried is just not working and I've exhausted my searches through Google, these forums matches where I've tried to apply other similar fixes to my scenario, and the Avaya documentation online that explains how these short codes work.
