You could use Paradox as the frontend, to create the pages either statically or dynamically.
And then use Paypal for the shopping and taking of monies.
I don't think I'd recommend it dynamically for a large site with thousands of items and/or thousands of users, though, since Paradox is single threaded.
although I've never used it I know several people who use and like it. It uses a mySql database, Paradox can easily upload data to mySql using the MySql Odbc driver.
