shockwave and flash buttons

Hi,

I have recently created a button in flash, and when I come to put it on my page, when previewing all I get is a white square where the button should be..
it is not showing the graphic at all.
in fact the same thing happened when I downloaded a menu which was a .swf file.
I put the thing in my layout view and when previewing the page there was justa white box.

any ideas?

Is the path to the button correct?
Is it the swf file..not the fla?

I noticed tha I have a swf and a fla for the menu.
do I need to put both of these on there somehow, or make sure both of them are in the same directory??

swf file on the page... the fla file is the source file that you use to edit it, if you need to. swf files are uneditable.
