I'm trying to sell through Miva heavy products that weigh about 400 lbs. Being based on the east coast shipping on the same item may vary from say $50 to Virginia all the way to $250 if shipped to Seattle. Is there a way with miva that I can for example split the US in 3 or 4 zones with different shipping rates? or is there a module available that I can buy and set shipping costs according to the states.

There is a module available from William Weiland called "Shipping by Product by State Zone" that sounds like it would do the trick for you. It is available at mvcool.com.

I use a similar module of his that allows me to group countries together into zones for shipping calculations.

Thanks foxdev, after your post i checked and bought the module and its exactly what I needed. Now I can approximately set the correct shipping cost nationwide.

You might also consider an inexpensive module that allows the shopper to calculate shipping before checking out. The one we use on one of our sites is used in conjunction with a basket display.

I have successfully installed the "Shipping by Product by State Zone" module.
My question is: Is there any way to keep this module assigned to only certain products while others keep a standard UPS module. Example, can I make it so that all froducts under 50 lbs are sent using the UPS module while all products over that weight are sent using the "Shipping by Product by State Zone" module.
Thanks in advance for the help

Thanks foxdev for all the help. I succesfully installed the Shipping Supermod and it works just like I need it to. I rellay don't know what I would have done without your help!

I'm glad to hear that it worked out well for you. Like I said, it's not cheap, but it sounds like it is what you needed.

I have the same situation. Some lighter products going via UPS and the heavier ones via freight carrier from the east coast. What's involved in installing the Shipping Supermod? I haven't added any modules to Miva yet. Also, once installed, what's involved in setting products under a certain weight for the UPS module and the heavier products by state zone?

FoxDev, which of your sites uses the inexpensive buyer-calculated shipping module and from where can it be purchased?

Should I stay or should I go now? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

Joe, it isn't a "buyer-calculated shipping module", but one that allows the buyer to calculate (well, maybe I should have written "see the calculation result") the shipping before checking out.

uses this as part of its mini-basket display in the upper-left corner of the shopping pages. Once you add one or more items to the basket, you can click the link in the mini-basket, fill in the state and ZIP code, and receive a shipping quote which is calculated dynamically based on the weight of items in your cart. It works with nearly any shipping method(s) you have in your store, and can be purchased at mvcool.com (MVCool is a multi-vendor module store).

etu1972, I had your same situation and solved it thanks to foxdev with both the "Shipping by Product by State Zone" module and the "Shipping Supermod" module, it wasn't cheap but I wanted it to work my way and it did.
The Supermod lets me choose either what specific products I want shipped in a certain way or what weight limit I want to put on packages before selecting a different shipping method. I chose to ship everything under &0lbs by UPS and anything over by freight.
Also since the products I ship by freight are heavy. I have installed the "shipping by product by state" module to allow me to predetermine shipping costs for the different states.
Both modules were quite easy to install (I'm a first time mivas user) ande work seamlesly with one another.
Good luck

Thanks ff91 and foxdev! AMc

Should I stay or should I go now? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

Hi ff91,

If you don't mind, could you give me the url for your site that uses both these products? Thanks, AMc

Should I stay or should I go now? Thanks & Goodbye, Joe.

I have the same issue with freight! I have a friend at freightquote.com and they seem like a viable solution. Does anybody have any experience with freightquote.com.

I only use Miva's hosted store solutions and know nothing of code development in Miva. If you can't click it...I don't touch it!

Is there a way to employ the "shipping product by state" module and magage the configuration of the costs that are similar to what I'll actually get quoted from the freight carrier?

thanks
jon

what is the url to the shipping by products by state zone module link. As well, where did you get the information to "best" calculate your heavy products for each zone.

This is my current plan: If I can calculate the freight on my heavy items (as close as I can to the actual freight), I will use the module. Then I can work with freight quote to get the best price.

I'm thinking at some point I will have to pass the savings I get from freightquote onto my customers.

I noticed that there is a module out there that acts as an interface with the UPS online tools and has been specifically built to simply integrate into Miva. Does anybody know of the same process for freightquote???

thanks

jforbis, follow the links above and you'll find the modules you need.
As for calculating shipping on heavy itmes. I separated the US in four zones (from east to west). I got quotes from companies such as LTL & AAA cooper on freight for my heavy items and after that made an average cost of shipping for each zone. In some sales I loose a few bucks on shipping, while in others I make a few but it all works out for me.

In response to etu1972, I prefer not to share my link to my shoping cart site.
