What ways has everyone calculated shipping costs in a shopping cart?

Different methods would be appreciated.
I'll give a star to someone who can get accurate shipping cost for 1 or all carriers.. www.vzio.com

Both UPS and FEDEX offer downloadable ASCII files that match rates for Initial location to destinations. UPS has some options to pay for online services like built in tracking and such for your site.

Here is the link for UPS rates :)

And since I have never done this before, feel free to post any results you may find [wink] I'll let you check out fedex and USPS

or perhaps someone would be nice enough to clue us both in :)

USPS is nice enough to use querystrings, you could parse this page:

length width and heaight are self explanatory, P is pounds, O is ounces, OZ is original Zip, DZ is destination Zip
No idea what M, x, or y is :)

This is kinda fun :p

Well the front page can be duplicated, why not use XMLHTTP to make the request and parse out the results?

It should be relatively easy since they were nice enough to put it in a table for you. Although I would have thought they would have an XML service up by now, perhaps you should drop them an email and ask, or see if anyone has a soap server to request a UPS rates object address, then you would be able to make XML requests directly to them.
