I've worked with Shell commands quite a bit in the past but it's probably been a year or more.

Nortel is very tight lipped about these commands as they have the potential to crash the switch if used improperly.

Can someone refresh my memory on how to get into the initial menu screens? Once there I'm sure it will all come back to me.

Thanks in advance....Dane

I'm not sure if its always been this way, but the last time I had to enter shell-level commands I needed a set of passwords Nortel gave me based on my chassis serial number and the current system time/date.

I entered one password in response to a challenge by the 'priv' command and a second in response to the privileged mode command 'shell'.

As you say, they are somewhat reluctant to have people doing things at the priv/shell level because the normal safety nets do not exist.

anthonyanderberg - thanks for the response.

I found some notes on it and it's starting to come back to me now. And you're right...Nortel is pretty tight lipped about that stuff which is something else I'd forgotten. I probably shouldn't have asked that question in this forum.

I don't really think it's considered priviledged information, it's just that there's too much potential to crash your box with those commands.

Anyway...thanks again.
