Does anyone out there have non-IBM information (reviews) of the ESS/Shark ? EMC has been over here slinging mud around and I was hoping to see some reviews. Gartner has some, but I don't $ for the Gartner web services.

Thanks, Bill.

Hello Bill,
look at website then search on ESS or 2105.

There are good books it gives you what it can do. See if that is what you company needs.

Like if you have a 2105 shark. you can have disk mirrored so the database does not have to be taken off line or file being locked.

The mirror copies are backed up to tape.

This redbooks give you and idea of what you can get out of shark.

The EMC has a powerpath software that make use of dual path if one adapter is busy it uses second adapter if you have it this software cost close to 100k.

ESS/shark has this software included in the price of ESS.

With fiber channel hba and brocade switch the connection is very simple.

install FC HBA - if the system has a hot plug pci slot then system does not have to be powered off. install HBA the put wrap plug in HBA and run cfgmgr once the adapter is seen.
lsdev -Cc adapter. then take out wrap plug and connect fiber cable and delete def of HBA rmdev then run cfgmgr again if the cable is right you will see the brocade switch. and the connection from brocade to 2105/ESS is correct and right cable you will see the 2105 disk.
There is a issue of qdepth.

Let us just look at the price of stock of EMC and IBM. It tells story of which company has better product and provides good support.
