Sharing Vignette Data...Doable?

This is going to sound strange (and it is). My employer wants to utilize SharePoint (2003) as our intranet portal but would also like to use Vignette (V6) for static doc storage (political decision). Can I leverage Vignette's CMS capabilities and still view the docs through SharePoint, while also utilizing the great array of SharePoint functionality at the same time? It would be optimal to avoid using the Vignette interface for doc creation and upkeep.

SharePoint is a new venture for us and we have only been testing for a short time...so please use little words, I am still a SharePoint dummy.
