I want to try & help someone who just got a dsl modem & finds out in the area they only offer usb modems. In Windows XP, the connection cannot be shared like you normally would any other internet connection - there is no advanced tab showing in the connection properties.

Has anyone else seen this before?

It's an issue getting PC hardware to function, and most people here are actually familiar with Windows XP.

dakota81, nope running adsl modem on usb with xp pro connection is shared over lan host computer set as gateway.
works fine.

Thanks for the reply. So if the machine is just set to be a DHCP server, it should work. I'll see if the other computers can get the proper DNS services, as I was having some troubles with that on another network I set up couple weeks ago. The added machine we want to have internet access is an XBox so we need everything to be autoconfigured properly.

The particular laptop & modem is on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean from me, that's why I have not been able to play around with settings.

dakota81: if you had asked a PC hardware question I would not have directed you to another forum.
