hi,
I have a network with a few windows 98 clients. one of my servers is in control of the printers. All printers are installed on this server (3 in total) and shared over the network.
In windows 98 I could simply add a new network printer and change the name of the printer and some options. So i have one printer wich has 4 tray's 4 times in my clients.
one called kyocera L1 this printer will print to tray 1
the second kyocera L2 this printer will print to tray 2
...
until kyocera L4 wich prints to tray 4
it works fine.
Our ERP application has those printers in one of his config files and it automaticaly prints for example pickinglist to kyocera L2. In this tray will be green paper. another report will be prited twice. One time on L3 wich is yellow and one time on L4 wich is pink.
Now we are switching some old pc's with new oneces wich have winXP professional on them. And what the heck. I can not install those shares anymore. I only can add one printer 1 time. Not 4 times. I even can not rename the printer anymore.
So i tried to create some duplicates on the server so all Tray's have a share on the print server but can't be done either. You can not add the same printer 2 times on the server.
It would be nice to have all 4 tray's as difrent printer shares on the server so the clients only had to install those printers and the paper output would be automaticaly correct becouse it is configured on the server.
is this possible? If not how can I make shure that I have all those printers in XP? so a printer for each tray?
tanks.
tank you,
