Hi all,

I have a problem at home. No, not that kind of problem - I have a problem sharing a printer.

I have an old windows 2000 machine that I want to use as a print server for my HP 720 deskjet printer. I have shared the printer and everything appears good on the 2000 side.

Now I want to load this shared printer on my Windows Vista machine. Problem is I can't see it or access anything from the Windows Vista side.

I have a really simple home networking setup - both machines belong to same workgroup. I don't have a bunch of users or passwords. I have McAfee security suite running on both machines.

Any ideas on what to check?

thanks,
ANdy

can you ping from vista to 2000 and vice versa?

disable mcafee on the 2000 pc and see if that helps (you might need to add a rule here)

check the ip configuration by opening a command prompt (start-run-cmd enter)
type ipconfig /all and post the results here (from both pcs)

Thanks all, I got it figured out. After disabling McAfee on both computers it worked. So I did a quick Google search and figured out how to allow Windows File/Print sharing through the McAfee firewall.

All is good. The Win 2000 machine is slow as hell, but at least it works!
