HI there,

I'm having a few issues with sharing out my hard drive on my networked PC. When I access the properties on my C drive and go to the sharing option, I select 'share this folder', but the hand symbol does not appear underneath. I've managed to share out my CD rom so that I can access it off another machine but my hard drive is a different matter. If I try and set the permissions for my C drive it says 'this has been shared for administrative purposes', but again it doesn't appear to be shared out. Does anyone have any idea why this is? Do i need to be logged in as administrator to share it out?

Any advice would be appreciated. My PC is running Win 2000 with TCP/IP enabled.

The root of C: is already shared out as the message you noted said. If a user on another PC is logged on using an account that's in the local admin group on your 2000 PC (the one you are trying to share C: on) they can map to \\pcname\c$. pcname is the name of your PC.

By default the root of drives or partitions are setup as c$, D$, etc which any account that is in the local admin group on that PC can connect to. That's why you can share out the CD-ROM using the sharing function or a folder on C: but not the entire drive, it's already done.

I don't have 2000 running in front of me at the moment, but I believe in the Sharing tab you should click New Share, create the new Share, then assign permissions.
