There are a number of products out there that let you share an internet connection amongst a number of PC's
Windows itself supports something Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). The following link explains how to set that up on XP machines:
I used to use a product called Wingate however as it offered the kind of features that interested me in addition to the actual Internet sharing. It doesn't come free of course.
I had a quick look on a website I browse now and again for freeware and found something up there that may do what you want it do. never used it myself so can't say how good the product is. Link is as follows:
I suppose which one you use comes down to functionality you're looking for, cost and ease of installation/use.
Arguably the Micrsoft ICS solution compares well on cost and east of installation (i.e. there is LOTS of documentation on the web telling you how to configure it.) Whereas the Wingate product probably offers more features but obviously has a cost implication and guides to installing it may not be readily available.
Anyway, I hope the above helps you in making the right choice.

Ah I misunderstood your question. I thought you and your friend were on the same network and wanted to share his DSL connection but that's not the case.
Ignore everything I just said as it's not applicable to you.
I'm assuming by connecting to your friend's PC you mean taking remote control of it so you can use it like he's able to? I've used VNC in the past for this. It's free and simple to use. That's available here:
Word of warning about this software. Occasionally hackers like to use this software and dump it secretly on people's hard drives. As such, there are a number of virus an malware scanners out there that will recommend any VNC software for removal. You just need to tell your scanner to ignore the area you've installed it in.
