Sharing e-mail account

Is it possible to share a common e-mail account and mail files between different users on the same OS X system?

I unwittingly imported our e-mail inbox into Mail while logged in as me. When my wife logs in under her user name, she seems to have a different inbox, even though I set up Mail to look at the same mail account.

If it's an IMAP account you can probably share by putting the same account information into both copies of Mail. Otherwise, I don't think it can be done.

I suppose if it's POP and you set the server option to leave a copy on the server then two accounts can use it.
