Sharing Deskjet 990cxi on Windows NT???

I support a WinNT 4.0 workstation that has an HP Deskjet 990C as a local printer (parallel port). When I share the printer via Properties, and click OK, I get an error that the "printer settings could not be saved".
I am logged in locally as the administrator. I have removed and reinstalled the printer driver.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as neither Mirosoft TechNet or HP's support page ha anything on this particular problem.
