I have a large number of servers with samba shares on them, to aid users I have create a directory tree of these on one machine i.e. /shared/server1, /shared/server2 etc and am offering the root directory of that tree as a share i.e. /shared - I am getting regular occurances of samba locking up and the users cant see anything. It is locked so hard that the only fix is to reboot and even then I have to power off to shut it down. I have checked all log files and cannot see anything obvious

Has anyone had similar experiences/any ideas ?

Thanks

Ian

Interesting problem. As i see it you are sharing out a shared folder.

When your system is working, how many users can work simultaneously and how effective is it.

Previously I have been told that you cannot share a share. I wonder now if this was correct.

In windows it would be the equivalent of mapping a drive at machine A from machine B that was mapped by machine B from machine C. W2000 certainly won't do this.
