For those of you that remember you could put a trunk into HG 8 with a fax extension on the Avaya ACS and anytime a fax call was received you could press ## (pound or hashtag) and the call would transfer to fax machine.

Can this be done on the Avaya IPO V2, just as simply and how?

why not just install a line splitter, the type that gives the same extension on both ports, phone plugs into port 1 and fax in port 2

Or just route all calls through the IPO and use an AA to detect fax tone and transfer to an analogue extn with the Fax on, sure sounds more like the place for a Panasonic though.

Because if a fax comes in they have to tell caller to call back and then not answer the line. But, because they have line ringing set on all 10 extensions, that's a problem within it's self.

Then Andy's solution should work then, and why don't they have a dedicated fax line? sounds like a bad set up if you ask me

The # symbol is called HASH, not hashtag & certainly not pound which is either £ if you are referring to currency or lb if you are referring to weight :)

The approach described above can still be used on an IP Office simply make sure the users know the Fax extn number & transfer to that.

VM Pro can do fax detection but if you have invested in that I fail to understand why you would not have a dedicated ddi or analog line for the fax.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

amriddle01, this part works just fine! But, they don't engage the AA during the working hours; so when the shared line rings line 3, they can't tell the difference until they answer. Like I said earlier on the ACS if a fax was screaming in your ear, you could press ## and it would transfer the call to fax machine.

They don't have a dedicated fax line because of the additional cost! I don't own the business and have discussed with them W/O success. They said they receive about 15 fax a week and don't want additional cost.

Turn on OTT then, when they hear fax it's a single button press, one less than ##. How is that not better? :)

We must be lucky to send or receive a fax once a month but it still comes in useful.

I just routed a spare DDI to an analogue port and attached the fax there. We have SIP trunks so this isn't recommended but it seems to work.

In the UK an analogue line is about GBP15 a month so this might be a better option if they are still getting 65 a month (and probably sending as well).

I'm surprised the IP Office never had a built in fax modem as this is included in cheap MFDs. Obviously not a full blown fax server but would be useful for many businesses which just use the odd fax.

A fax switch would be a bit simpler honestly. Viking makes one that isn't terribly expensive.
