I have a printer shared on a desktop pc. is it possible to set it up on a 2000 server and share it again from there? so users connect directly from the 2000 server

is your printer physically installed on that desktop pc ? (eg, usb or parallel ?) if yes :
in theary you could shared it from the server, but that desktop pc has to be on, if its turned off, now one could print cause its still acting as print server, so the end result will be usless to share it off the server,
