We have a scanner(HP ScanJet 4P)with a DB-25 connector on
one end of its cable.
Can it be used on two PC's,via an A/B box, if I installed a SCSI card on the second PC?
Would it be safer to use a solid state switch box instead?
Are these questions a waste of bandwidth?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, I have 2 suggestions; BOTH of which will MOST LIKELY work:
1. If you are using Windows 95 (or higher) on both computers, you can to a "direct cable connection" between your computers & access the scanner from both computers by attaching it to one & naming it as a "Shared" resource. (e-mail me if you need help at any step in this process)

2. If you A) don't have windows 95/98 on BOTH of the computers; or B)Would rather not mess with a DCC (direct cable connection) You can buy (rather inexpensively) a MANUAL switch; atach the scanner as the "host," then attach the computers as "resources." You can then switch manually which computer the scanner is physically connected to. WARNING: If you decide to use the manual switch method, BE ABSOLUTELY SURE to turn the scanner OFF before "flipping" the switch to use it with the other computer. You could SEVERELY damage your scanner if you don't!
I also got the same problem, I'd like to share a scanner on Peer-to-Peer network, the scanner uses the printer port, any suggestions regarding this? Thanks
