How can I share a usb scanner with two computers using xp pro on a network.

Generally, you can't. There are some that are network-able, but most are not.

I disagree. there was an app that was supplied with hp scanners that allowed you to setup the scanner on one machine and access it from any other machine on a network. you then have to set up the client software on the other pc. I can't remember the specifics but I shared a usb camera and printer from my pc and a friend visiting got them setup on his pc.

whats your scanner? moonspell is correct on the point that some HP scanners can be shared

Yes, all the networkable scanners can be networked. But as I said, they're few and far between. The only HP models that can be networked are the Network Scanjet Series (and it's very unlikely to find one of these on a 2 computer network).

Not even the hp's designed for it always work, or continue to work.
HP needs to get a grip on its usb issues.
BUT...I have spied some software somewhere that is supposed to be able to network any scanner......<cough> But I wouldnt buy any stock in the company.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
