I have a stand alone server that is not part of any domain (it is in fact just connected to a network in a Unix environment). We want to use this just to share files, but we don't want to have to give a password to access it.

Is this possible? If so, how? Essentially, we want to be able to just type \\computername\share into a browser and see it without any bother.

Enable the guest account in "Local Users and Computers", and assign it the permissions you want it to have to the folder(s) being shared.
