Hi Folks

Having a very frustrating time trying to get shares working on a new win2003 standard box.

The machine is a VM that has access to the network and has been put on the domain.

I create the share root folder, e:\applications with the security access of admins full access, everyone else has read.

If then create a folder on the share \\semeru\applications I find that my users who are general users are able to read and execute only on the share. It doesn't matter what changes I make the securities of the folder, they are still only able to read and execute.
I've added domain users and other groups and given them full access, yet they can still only read.

If I change the everyone group on the share root to have change access then this flows to the folders below and my users can access the folders to do what they want.

Domain admins have no issues accessing the folders from the network.

This is not a good solution for me as I need to be able to lock the folders down not have them open at the share root!

I've been trying to get this going all morning and am yet to find a solution.

Any hints?

Cheers

Pete

Default share permissions in Windows 2003 are READ. You need to manually change that on the permissions page of the share. Many people grant FULL CONTROL on the share, then limit things on NTFS permissions.
