Windows server 2003 R2 W/sp2 connected to an EMC Clarion
This is our main file server and was put in production about 6 months ago.

Hello....

For about 6 months my file server has been doing great. Last week I did a scheduled update/restart of the server and when it came back up all of the windows shares were missing.
I discovered that I could restart the "server" service and they would instantly re-appear.

There are no errors in the event viewer. No clue at all that anything is amiss in the logs.

The service shows that it is started and is running but for some reason it is not working. There is no indication that the service is stopped or not working. Restarting the server service brings the shares back.

Has anyone else come across this?

We have several other servers that are connected to the EMC Clarion and none of those servers are losing their shares.

At this point I am guessing that it is a windows problem and have contacted EMC to see if they can assist.

Any ideas?

This has happened twice in the last 10 days.

Thanks!!!!

I've seen this issue when the Server service starts before the drivers that connect your server to the SAN. Restart the Server service and the shares should reappear.

There is a way to change startup order, but I haven't had time to troubleshoot it for myself.

Good Luck!
