Hi,
I need to be able to validate, based on file type, what documents are uploaded to a specific document library in Sharepoint WSS. I have come to the conclusion that there are two ways of going about this.

1. We could use the "Event Handlers" for Sharepoint and run validation on the file(s). This can be intensive since the event handlers fire after the upload is complete. This means after the file is uploaded, it would be validated and then deleted if validation fails.

2. Since the Upload.aspx file in Sharepoint uses some Javascript prior to form post, I tried to insert some additional script that would parse the file name and get the last three characters. This would work optimally in my situation except that the upload form uses a web bot for the upload control and I do not know what to reference to get the string that is the filename.

Can anyone assist in..
1. Sharing some experience in using event handlers and any issues they bring when trying to perform the above.
2. How do I access the file upload control on the page to get the filename string I need for validation.

Thanks in advance.
