sharepoint shortcuts

is there a way to make a shortcut to a document in sharepoint. Say we have a main company website and a few sub sites or workspaces for different types of employees. we wanted the workspace to have a live link of the infomation from a file in the main site but also have the file be located in the workspace and but updated everytime its changed on the main site. is this possible?

Of course. Navigate to the file in sharepoint. Right click. Choose Copy Shortcut. Then use the copied path for your shortcut path.
