Hello All,

I have sharepoint v3 installed on port 8080, i would like to access it locally through The server it is installed on already has a default website setup an running on port 80. Is it possible to setup DNS or alternate mappings to access sharepoint on the address above without using any port numbers?

Thanks

Use SharePoint alternate Address mappings in Central admin. Then create a DNS entry on your DNS server and it should work without issue.

Hello thanks for the reply.

I have a CNAME record in DNS setup to point to our server, the only problem is that it returns the default website on port 80. I dont know of a way in DNS to force it to look at another port.

I have read some posts about having to setup a reverse proxy either by using ISA Server or Apache which has a reverse proxy addin.

I installed Apache got it working sort of. I can put in but it then reverts to the old i'm trying to stop our users from seeing server info in the address bar.

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Check the host-header in IIS for the SP site. You can add the entry that you added as an alternate address mapping in here and have it look at port 80 without interfering with the default website
