SharePoint 2003 and WSS 2.0 are more or less the same thing.
Microsoft Office SharePoint 2007 and WSS 3.0 are part of the same set/generation of technologies - MOSS 2007 is a larger package than WSS 3.0, but WSS 3.0 is the foundation of MOSS 2007.
WSS 3.0 is a ham and cheese sandwich on a sourdough bun. MOSS 2007 is a big deli sandwich that includes ham and cheese and the same bun.
Ok so now I know why I was getting confused. i thought WSS 3 was the older version and MOSS was the new version. Now I got it. That explains why the book i'm ready regarding configuring was reffering to 2003 and I had WSS 3.0 and everything was off.
