Sharepoint MSDE database on other server? 1

I have a Windows Server 2003 Web edition running in my DMZ. I want to install Sharepoint on this webserver but Webedition does not allow to install MSDE or MSSQL on it. Now I want to install MSDE on another server. Is it possible to install Sharepoint onto a server with the serverfarm option and install MSDE on another server and refer Sharepoint to it later like it was a MSSQL database?

uhm.. no if you are talking about WSS then you have to install WMSDE on the same machine as the app.. because WMSDE does not allow remote connections.
I am not sure if MSDE that comes with SPS 2003 (portal server) does allow remote connections...
