When I create a list sharepoint adds a title field with a type of 256 characters, I need this to be a multiple line column I couldnt change it but managed to hide the title field and create my own called incident however I then can't edit existing entries ie I lose the functionality assigned to the title column.

Is there a way to add the functionallity of the title column to a text field of your own creation or to change the type of the title field?

I am using sharepoint 2007.

Thanks in hope

If you are working in a List, you should be able to modify the View, and add the Edit (link to edit item) column.

Good question.
You are wanting to make your new column the 'default' and have the dropdown options on that field?

Yep thats what I want to do, as a work round we now have a short descption 256 charachters and a details column not ideal but got me working.
